About the role
We are looking for young, dynamic, very bright, innovative and team orientated developers who are looking for the best opportunity in Cape Town to develop their Java skills, with the opportunity to improve the lives of millions of under banked people across the world.

This is a very exciting and collaborative role that requires you to work as part of a dynamic team, with Product Owners, Software Architects, Software Testers, Technical Writers, UI Designers and other Software Developers contributing directly to ensure that product designs are developed, validated and executed.

Responsibilities:
- Work as an integral part of a cross functional development team
- Perform detailed design of the product and architecture components, and validate the design with stakeholders
- Build and test product software components to meet product requirements
- Follow good security coding practices to ensure the application is free of most common coding vulnerabilities
- Fix any defects and performance problems discovered in testing
- Participate in code reviews, and other techniques to improve code quality
- Build and assist with ensuring automated builds and continuous integration are working at all time
- Build product migration approaches, scripts and functions
- Play an active role in the team’s scrum responsibilities.

So, what skills and/or knowledge & experience would you be expected to have?
- Good understanding of source control, versioning, branching, merging etc
- Good understanding of continuous integration, automated deployment, installation and data migration
- Good understanding of Test Driven Development, and tools to assist with unit and automated testing
- Good understanding of Coding standards, code metrics and tools to assist with development
- Understanding of how to work in an incremental fashion, and refactor design as requirements evolve
- A passion for quality and perfection
- A passion for agile software development
- Exposure to mobile applications, banking or transaction processing systems (but not essential)
- Scrum (but not essential)
- High quality, clever ‘pet projects’ and an interest in development tooling and efficiency would impress.

Qualifications

What about qualifications?
- B-Degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent technology diploma
- A formal Sun Java certification will be an advantage
