Job Description
SBI is looking to hire an Operations Advisor based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to work closely with the senior management of a technology company in implementing the project and advising on technical areas. The Ops Advisor would be supported by a project team as well as short term consultants as required. The responsibilities and the deliverables are detailed below.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the C-suite of the tech firm to develop and adapt strategy to changing market environment
- Provide strategic and advisory support tech firm management team as required
- Provide field supervision to the broad range of short-term technical support in a range of specializations
- Review and inputs on SLA terms and conditions with partner MFIs/FIs/etc
- Provide inputs and advice on pricing structures, product and service design and roll-out
- Support effective delivery through field monitoring of client-facing operations for service consistency, branding, risk and fraud, and customer satisfaction
- Provide inputs and advice on pricing structures, product and service design and roll-out

- Support development of operational procedures suited for national roll-out of mobile financial services
- Identify potential technical assistance requirements for the tech firm and develop relevant SOWs for the technical assistance
- Serve as the main liaison and relationship manager for the tech firm, donor agency, and SBI
- Manage the technical assistance activities, ensure quality output in accordance with agreed SOW and provide backstopping support to facilitate implementation of recommendation
- Work with the tech firm’s senior management to achieve the milestones set for the project
- Manage the project budget for SBI and oversee the collaboration project budget to ensure expenditure is in alignment with the agreed upon activities as per the Cooperation Agreement between SBI and the tech firm
- Ensure that all deliverables meet the quality and standard stipulated by SBI
- Review and deliver progress reports as required by the agency
- Coordinate Advisory Group meeting with key members of SBI and the tech firm, and external resources as required
Job Requirements
Desired Skills & Experience
Qualifications:
Required
- Experience with development and management of retail agent networks, franchising, and/or FMCG distribution models;
- Experience with marketing and brand development for retail consumer goods;
- Strong relationship management skills with financial institutions, donors, and other partners and stakeholders;
- Proven project management skills and experience;
- Business development drive and acumen;
- Motivated self-starter;
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience;
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in relevant field (business, finance, marketing, economics, public policy, technology);
- Ability to work comfortably in a multicultural and fast-paced implementing environment.
Preferred
- Commercial banking and retail financial product development experience;
- Microfinance and/or inclusive finance implementing experience;
- Extensive donor management experience;
- Familiarity with SBI practice areas;
- Regional and/or language experience.
